Facebook helps family (:

The Rice family found devastating news after posting a picture of a rash they noticed on their four year old on Facebook. A family friend who is a doctor happened to see it and notice and the beginnings of Lukemia on the boy.
This story was originally reported on in the United Kingdom by The Sun. The little boy, Ted, has a seventy-five percent of surviving.
It is crazy to think of how powerful social networking really is; this four year old life was saved by Facebook.
There a lot of things that come with social networking, good and bad things. There have been some extraordinary things that have happened though.
Its just hard to think about this precious little life and how God worked everything together for him to be okay.
I went through this in my own life with my baby nephew, Jacob. Baby J, is the most adorable little guy but he was born with a broken heart. A condition called Hypoplastic Heart Syndrome which means that he was born with only half of a normal functioning heart. He is now about nine months old and has already had two open heart surgeries.
Facebook has actually been a huge help, from being able to spread information aroung fast of how he doing to starting a prayer chain “event” invitation that was sent to over three thousand people. It starting with me sending it to about five hundred people which just spread because of others sending it here and there.
There were people sending prayers and messages of support that had no idea who we were or any of us. When I originally sent out the invitation, he was in the hospital, again, and the doctors were really worried. The saw swelling around his heart and fluid, by the next day there was nothing (out of the ordinary) wrong.
It was definitely all the Lord but it is just another example of how we can use social networking for good. People tend to only point out the bad, the addicting nature and relationship drama that occurs over Facebook.
I am sure that this little boy will grow up big and strong and I praise the Lord for the family finding out about it early. Also, now that the national media has covered it and it was sent from the UK to America, more Christians will hear about him and be praying for him and his cancer to heal and his parent to be comforted.

Taco Bell Meat

http://articles.latimes.com/2011/feb/01/business/la-fi-taco-bell-20110201

Taco Bell is defending themselves against the lawsuit's allegations that had been made about them using too many fillers and providing customers with fake meat. This caused an uproar of people refusing to eat Taco Bell. In this article it Taco Bell claims to use 88% beef and 12% seasonings and fillers.

I have been eating Taco Bell since I was little and I love it. We all know that fast food is unhealthy, it's a well known fact. When biting into a burger or burrito, the thoughts are usually about the taste and speed due to our hectic lifestyles. Honestly Taco Bell's beef scare didn't phase me. I like my beefy five layer burritos and it may be ignorance, but I haven't died yet so I'm not worried. I think that when people see something like this come out, they jump on it to point out flaws in companies.

Article- Final

There was a trend going on last weekend where people were changing their status to this:
"Change your Facebook profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same. Until Monday there should be no human faces on Facebook, but an invasion of memories. This is to bring awareness to the problem of violence against children."

Thus millions of people changed their pictures and it was going around like wildfire.

There were various ways that people reacted to this. Some changed their picture, some ignored but I noticed many of my friends posting things portraying that simply changing your profile picture won't do anything and if people want to help children, they should actually do something about it. Others posted that it was a scam by a group of Pedophiles trying to get youth to accept their friend requests.

Personally, I thought it was a good concept and I thought that it didn't directly help but then I stumbled upon this article on yahoo news.

It stated that there was a sudden increase of donations and traffic because of the awareness brought by this Facebook trend.

The power of social networking is very interesting.

According to the article they can't pinpoint the direct source of the mysterious trend that was started.

Any-who, I thought it was great that something as simple as changing your profile picture truly helped raise awareness for a greater cause,

The Social Network

The Social Network was...an interesting movie.

It really grabbed the readers' attention and it was interesting to see how such a popular tool as Facebook was created. These days its weird if someone doesn't have a facebook, it just like everyone just assumes that everyone else has one.

Yes it was a good movie but, one main thing i did realize through this movie is that Mark Zuckerburg was not a very nice person assuming that his character had the same personality as in the movie.

First of all, he spited his best friend, his business partner. He seemed to be grasping for the stars a little too much and lost grasp of what was important. I mean, his "best friend" actually sued him in court. How far does it have to go before your best friend actually takes you to court.

The movie completely showed the skewness of morals in today's society. On Zuckerburg's original website "facemash" he had his peers compare the girls of Harvard saying who was "hotter". That is extremely degrading.

Then once the Winklevoss twins came to him with their idea of the Harvard Connection, he completely took the the idea and ran with it, without them.

He ended up getting sued by both the Winklevoss twins and his "best friend" Eduardo Saverin and they both won substantial amounts.

Now as the movie said, he is the youngest millionaire in history.

So he lied, stole, and cheated... but he did end up the creator of one of the most popular sites theses days. Hmm? Yup, that sounds like today's society.

500,000,000 users on facebook... now let me get off of here and go update my status.

Sense of Escape

MOVIES. In the midst of crazy and hectic lives movies seem to be a great escape from "today." Whether it's a tear jerker or a comedy, there's a sense of escape within every minute of a flick. Everyone has their own set of classics in their mind- you know the movie that you can watch over and over again and it never gets old.
For me, to sit down and watch a movie that I love (no matter how many times I have seen it) is just a relaxing way to get out stress from the day. During these times I just seem to block out everything and melt into the scenes as if they were real.
There's romance, comedy, suspense, action and adventure.
I'm not gonna deny it- I love chick flicks, especially being a girl, it's nice sometimes to drift into a fictional drama instead of confronting day to day drama. Everyone needs a good cry now and again, right?
Comedy is also a great way to kick off the shoes and get the anxiety of the day off of your shoulders. Laughing is a great way to remember how to breathe.
Suspense, yup I'm a baby. Some suspense movies are alright but why think about all of these creepy scenarios that would never happen?! Too much added stress to the day if you ask me.
Now, I'm not so much into action or adventure although I'll admit Inception was pretty trippy.
Well to begin this blog I think it would be good to list some of my very near and dear movies:

Runaway Bride
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

August Rush Raising Helen
Notting Hill
A Walk to Remember
The Notebook
The Devil Wears Prada
Music & Lyrics
Message in a Bottle
Sleepless in Seattle
Hope Floats

13 Going on 30
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Get Smart
Monty Python and the  Holy Grail
Blindside
Fever Pitch
The Hot Chick
Spanglish
The Wedding Singer

Now I'm not saying that it's a good idea to get consumed with movies! They are purely for enjoyment, not meant to consume your life.
